In Memoriam, George Shafran
(1926-2017)

Monticello Capital is saddened by the loss of George Shafran, who was a senior advisor to Monticello Capital from 2004 until his death of natural causes in McLean, Virginia on June 7, 2017 at the age of 91.  George Shafran was involved in corporate development, technology innovations, and capital finance for more than fifty years.  His level of expertise was unmatched in complex financial relationships, real estate finance, commercial banking, and the connection of growth-phase technology corporations to the federal sector.  A former member of the Virginia House of Delegates, he maintained a significant base of representational business in the US, Canada, and internationally.

A Message from the Managing Director

Welcome to Monticello Capital.

Our firm is small, private, quiet, agile, influential in a broad range of commercial and geographical venues, and quite global in our business outlook.

Our professionals bring lifetimes of real-world expertise to work in the financial and business services we provide to high-growth companies.  Almost all of our clients have some measure of advanced technology and intellectual property driving their expansion.

In twenty-first century American business it’s terribly clichéd to emphasize human capital and the resources that deeply-knowledgeable professionals bring to the table.  In our case those characteristics absolutely define us.

Since being personally involved in the founding of this firm in 1997, I’ve been immensely proud of the men and women we call our partners.  We’ve all built businesses, made payroll, dealt with messy financial and personnel issues, and made tough calls.  It is the thoroughness of our operational experience and our emphasis on straight talk and ethics that make this firm different.

Our headquarters are in northern Virginia, in the Washington DC metropolitan area near Dulles International Airport.  Our scope is worldwide.  We’re proud to be one of the few investment banks of our size to have gained wide international distinction.  And we were here at the center of the federal government’s commercial nexus long before Wall Street came to Washington.

Our team knows exactly what challenges a business faces in crisis.  We’ve been there in the trough and we've experienced the magnificent crisis of wildfire growth.

Alumni of Monticello Capital have gone on to build new enterprises and to executive life in private equity, banking, venture capital, real estate, financial services, information technology, defense and aerospace, management consulting, government, and advanced technology manufacturing.

We’re pleased to put our experience to work for your company, enhancing performance, profit, and market distinction.
